Birth Story
Your dad had been saying for weeks that you were going to come on the 18th, and although I thought he was crazy, I was still trying to be as ready as I could....just in case he was right. I got home that afternoon and decided to do my hair and make up to sleep in, in case you came in the middle of the night. My hip had been hurting (you were sitting right on a nerve) so after everything was settled for the day, I decided to crawl into bed and watch some TV. Around 5:00 I started to think I was cramping a bit and what I thought was peeing myself. I text a friend of mine to ask what labor felt like and she assured me that I would know if I was in labor. Daddy got home from working out and when I told him I was feeling he knew you were coming. I was still very skeptical and sent him on his way to have drinks with his friend. After leaking "pee" for a few hours and cramping on and off, I decided I was going to try to get some sleep.
Daddy got home around midnight that night and asked how I was feeling. I was still cramping pretty badly and decided to start timing them just in case they were contractions. Daddy hopped in the shower and started packing his hospital bag (you know, the one I had been telling him for weeks to pack). My "cramps" were 5-7 minutes apart and I just wasn't convinced I was in labor so I decided to change my underwear and pajamas one last time, get a little sleep and see how I felt in the morning.
Around 4:30 am I woke up to pee and when I stood up, my clothes appeared as though I already had. I woke daddy up and told him that maybe we should go to the hospital just in case this was it. I told him not to pack any of the hospital stuff, because they were likely just going to send us home. He laughed. It was September 18th and "today is the day" he said. He loaded up the car and off we went. "You Alone" by Lauren Daigle (w/ North Point) was playing on our drive...it was quiet out. Dark outside still. I was excited. Scared. Everything in between.
We got to the hospital a little after 5am and when checking us in I continued to remind the professionals that I likely was not in labor. After checking my fluid to determine if I was in labor or not, Daddy prepped the notification to our families to let them know you were coming. They determined I was in labor! YOU WERE COMING! They told us that given the amount of time that my water had likely been broken that you would be here within the day!
We got checked in and settled. They started pitocin to get things moving and shortly after I decided it was time for an epidural. We had the most amazing nurse and she checked on me and progress as often as she could. Unfortunately, I was not progressing like they had hoped and your heart rate kept dropping. They continued to monitor things more closely and adjust the medication to get things to move along because if I wasn't where I needed to be by about 5pm, we were going to have to discuss a c-section. The nurse checked me around 2:15 and said she would be back around 4 to see where I was and assess what we needed to do. 4:00 came and while she was checking things she gave me a look. I was sure I wasn't where I needed to be and I asked "Still not there?" She looked at me and gave me the biggest smile - "You're at a 10" she said, "time to get this baby here!". She called my doctor and they started prepping me to push. I did a few practice pushed at 4:45, the doctor got to the room and situated a little after 5 and you were in this world at 5:18pm! Our sweet Jensyn Jean. Our lives have never been the same since that day and the world will now always be a better place because you were born.
